Lasting happiness lies in the things we do on a daily basis. If we habituate our self to do inspiring things, to make healthy choices and to work on our main goals every day, then eventually we create a life and a destiny that we absolutely love.
“We first make our habits, then our habits make us.” – John Dryden
The following 10 actions done daily can significantly improve our attitude, our mood, our focus, our relationships, boost our energy and make our purpose in life clearer. They can also help us maintain balance and bring us fulfillment in life.
Let’s dive in.
Gratitude
Gratitude creates a shift in our feelings, from whatever we feel to feeling of appreciation and abundance. An attitude of gratitude lowers our stress level and can sometimes put a smile on our face when we don’t expect it.
1 – Write everyday 3 things to be grateful for.
Cover different areas of your life: health, relationships, finances, work, etc and look for the little things that you appreciate.
It can be very rewarding to include as much detail as possible. If for example you think that you are grateful for your job, think of the precise characteristics of your job that you love most. May be it is the relationships with your colleagues or the fact that you get paid for working, may be it is the opportunity that you have to express your ideas and your creativity.
If you are grateful for someone in your life, find our the particular traits or qualities of the person that you admire the most and recall the memories that you appreciate the most. May be you can then write a thank you letter to that person or offer them a thoughtful gift as a sign of your appreciation
2 – Find out daily one thing you want to attract in your life.
Anticipate and thank for that as if it has already occurred. You will get what you need and beyond, in harmony with the needs of others. Gratitude combined with intention is like fishing in an ocean of possibilities.
In order to not let this powerful tool of attracting with your intention ineffective, I suggest that we then sit down and actually plan out different possibility how we can make our intention come true. The clearer our intention is, and the more easy the steps that we need to take are, the better we can get there.
So state clearly what you want and then divide it into easy actionable baby steps and work on it, one step at the time. Persevere and you will be amazed by what results from the accumulation of your actions. Use 20 to 30 min time blocks to work on your goal without distractions in order to increase your productivity.
3 – List your achievements and read your list everyday.
Add to the list regularly. When we remember all the achievements in our life, big and small, we realize the many “things” we have to be thankful for.
This point is a little bit like point 1, except that here, we focus on what we have achieve in our life. This is a huge confidence booster. It can be as simple as remembering that we have mastered how to walk, when we think that at some point in our life – as a beautiful tiny baby – , we were unable to walk and run.
List the things you are most proud of in your life and also honor the little achievement that you have forgotten with time, taking them as granted. Reward yourself also appropriately for you current achievements, small and big ones.
Improve your Relationships and Help Others
4 – Show your appreciation to the people around you.
This will improve your relationship with them. Give them compliments and also notice and point out what is unique to them.
For example your friend, your spouse or your brother can be a very hard working, generous or open-minded person by nature. Tell him that you appreciate that quality in him and give example of how it serves you and the people around him. He will continue to be the way he is, knowing that it makes a difference, and this is uplifting for the soul.
Surround yourself with the people who love and care about you and the people you love and care about. Hug your significant one and your loved ones more than you already do. Be there for them.
Open your heart to accept the people in your life as they are, and learn to forgive especially when it seems difficult.
5 – Seek opportunities to help another person get what they want
If you want, record how you have help someone to get what they want at the end of the day. Helping others is an opportunity to contribute with our talents and skills. It is also an effective way to boost our energy. The side effects of helping others will be that we get what we want in life.
The reason why I suggest that you keep record is that it acts and a reminder that we have consciously offer our time to make a difference in someone’s life.
It can be a simple act of kindness – smile to a stranger, help someone with a problem they have or give something away. Find out what it is you need the most in the present moment and do just that for others.
Take care of yourself
This one seems so basic and thus, sometimes we miss to implement it in our busy daily life. I wrote an article on 6 Ways to Take care of Your Body that you can bookmark for later. Basically on a daily basis we need to:
6 – Drink at least 1,5l of water
Drink more if you exercise or if the weather is warmer than usual – Choose at least one healthy meal and record it at the end of the day. It can be breakfast, lunch or dinner.
7 – Exercise
The cumulative effect of daily exercise keeps us fit and strong. 15 minutes daily does a huge difference. Choose a form of exercise that is going to be fun for you and be consistent with it: walk , dance, yoga, run…or a combination of what you love. I recommend following a regime on a daily basis.
8 – Get enough sleep
I often catch myself reducing my sleep in order to get more done. But this usually backfires in the way that my immune system becomes weaker and I am more vulnerable to cold and flu. Did you know that if you go to bed 3 minutes earlier every day for the next 20 days, you will gain 1 hour of sleep. Why not start now!
9 – Get fresh air and sunlight
Go for a walk in your favorite neighborhood and take deep breath from time to time.Take the time to be present and admire whatever is around you. Also make sure that you offer a smile to the people you encounter on your way. Who knows why your paths cross in this particular moment? Brighten their day with your smile 🙂
Meditate
Meditation quiets the mind, helps us to focus, improves our concentration, refreshes and inspires us. For those of us who are struggling to find their life purpose, meditation can truly help.
10 – Practice meditation on a daily basis
Ten minutes of meditation is what I’d recommend as a target, but feel free to do as long as it feels good to you. If you are just starting, you can begin with 2 or 3 minutes and then gradually add to it.
Sit down or lie down comfortably. You can use a chair or sit cross-legged. Close your eyes. Your hands can rest on your lap or if your are lying down, they are on the side of your body. You can also connect thumbs and index finger, palms facing up. Observe your breath, your thoughts and the present moment.
Relax. Ask each part of your body to relax one after the other: right leg, left leg, belly, chest, arms, shoulders, neck, head. Then focus your attention on your breath or on a point in your belly – center – and stay there for as long as you want.
Don’t judge your thoughts, just embrace them and go back to your breath and that focal point in your belly. Repeat until the end of this meditative session.
That’s it for today. Now I would love to hear from you what you do daily to improve your life.
